Although his process and materials aren't fully known, researchers found sulfur and silver in Korin's painting above. They believe Korin put leaves of silver as the river and later powdered sulfur was mixed in to turn it to black ("Famous Japanese"). |
Korin is often known for his paintings of nature, including the iris flower and different types of birds, but is also famous for his portraits and story illustrations. He once painted a portrait of the author of the Tale of Genji, Lady Murasaki. Other famous painters, such as Kanō, also painted her.
