The Kano Family

Throughout the Tokugawa Period, the most famous artists in Japan came from the Kano family, which lasted for 7 generations (~200 years), but their style lasted for another century. The first Kano was a beginner painter who was part of the samurai class, his name was Kano Kagenobu. His son, Kano Masanobu became the first accepted generation of the Kano family. By the time the 7 generations of the Kano had ended, there were many famous artists who were part of the Kano family.
